New simple binding.

Simple yes.. a little time consuming..not really.  But this hinge you can use on anything you want. And if you want to teach a class go for it. If you want to add it to your albums you sell go for it. There is nothing holding you back and you don't even have to pay for it

See a few weeks ago I got a message on YouTube from someone claiming I'm teaching their techniques. While I have never claimed that I "created" any way to make albums this really irritated me.

I have learned so many techniques from so many talented ladies throughout my years of crafting.  On YouTube, in store classes and at crops and in books. (I'm not talking about her book either as I didn't waste my money on it)

13 years ago I used to sell Stampin' up and learned most of my techniques through them. Then I sold Close to my heart. I have been to many crops and have picked up tricks here and there.

We often duplicate what we see. That's called "Casing". We all do it in one form or another. For someone to send me a message telling me to stop making tutorials is crazy.

This person never did answer me in what I supposedly copied and in the mean time I've been researching these "techniques" online, YouTube and through books. I found many examples of the same things I'm doing and teaching  all the way back to 2002. So for this person to claim she created these technique is totally bull hockey!

See I first saw a hinge binding system on a blog back in 2009 by Kathy Black at www.bublyfunk.typepad.com. Then I saw on YouTube by one crafter, how ever slightly different, then on yet another site which shall remain nameless. Who originally created it you say... Who freaking knows. All I know is it's been out there for long time, in one way or another.

So with out further ado.. here is my version!

    1. You go girl!!!!! I find you refreshing and to the point, and hope you continue on! I know exactly who you are referring to (as I'm sure many do) and must agree....some of the 'techniques' have been around a lot longer than 'some' of the scrapbookers.

  2. Please do not give up! I love your blog and youtube channel. I have learned so much from you and am in the process of creating every one of your projects! I love the fact that you are a regular scrapper just like me (husband, kids, "real" job!). I also scrap at night like you do. Thanks for all you do!!!

  3. I am pretty sure I know what you are talking about, and who emailed you. I learned that same binding technique from books I checked out at my local library. The copyrights on the books went back as far as 1972! Book binding has been around for ages, and I am not sure any of us have truly created any new binding methods! I love your videos and hope you will NOT stop posting tutorials.

    1. I don't understand it. I thought the craft commuity was the nicest but I'm seeing there are allot of fake people. In it just for the money and not the enjoyment. I love sharing. It makes me appy so I'll keep on keeping on.

  5. Ha ha. Well said, hunni. If I wrote down all the names I have gotten inspiration from over the last 10 years with a note of what it was she had taught me, I'd never find it anyway. There have been literally thousands. Its ridiculous to assume that we would remember. I believe in giving credit where credit is due, of course. On the other hand it's an impossible feat to remember everything. You go girl and don't you let the brainless ones stop you sharing your passion. Bring it on x

    1. I tried researching bindings online didn't see this exact one but I didn't heck other counties for things created before I was born lol what were they using them for back then anyway. I know they used to have"scrapbooks" mostly made from paper bag type pages but would be kinda cool to see what they made back then without all the fancy gadgets we have today

  7. I was so glad to find your tutorials. I had just come off a really bad experience with a person who loves to send crappy emails to other crafter's. You had a tutorial for a folio around Sept. I watched then got all my papers cut and went back to get instructions and the tut had been taken down. I wasn't happy to say the least but someone had gotten the instructions and emailed me. About a week later the tut was back up and I immediately knew why it had been taken down. This person has come within an inch of making me not want to continue paper crafting. I was the recipient of one of her infamous emails and I have a really bad taste in my mouth. Had no idea people could be so vicious. You just keep doing what you're doing. I love your tuts because you're fast and don't mess around.
The only reason this is anonymous is because I forgot my google acct info.

    1. Hi Harriet, I too got a PM from 'someone' that took down one of my posts I had made although she stated I had not violated any 'rules' of the board, she felt my post/pics would cut in to her business....so she took down my post/pics. How's that for being paranoid....hehehehe I took it as flattery that she was afraid my 'work' would possibly out sell hers........... hmmmm

  8. I forgot to mention that I have done 3 of the photo folios with your tutorial. Everyone I gave one to is crazy about theirs. Harriett

  9. I saw nothing that "belonged" to someone else in your binding tutorial and I've watched tons of videos. It's sad when someone has nothing better to do than go trolling through videos to claim something is "theirs".

Do what you love. You've always given credit where credit is due on your videos.

  10. I am so curious of your experience because it has kept me from actually wanting to teach online. I have a passion to share what I have learned but I am so confused as to what is copying. If you don't mind sharing... Did you pay for any license to teach the folios? I loved your version and how you tweaked them. Is that okay to do as long as we take something and make it ours? Or are we not "allowed" to use the seed of the idea at all? I appreciate your help on this. I have been frustrated by the big name designers claiming all the techniques as theirs.

    1. Don't let anyone stop you from doing what you love. Techniques are not protected by copyright laws most of the time anyway

  11. LMAO at people who thinking they invented the cure for cancer when they folded paper. Of course someone folded paper like the hidden hinge in 2009 .... I bet others did before there was web pages to post it on. Good for you for standing up for creative freedom. Glad to have found you!

  13. I personally want to thank you for standing strong against this person as well. The techniques we all use are techniques that have been around since man first invented paper. These techniques are nothing new, just variations on stuff that has been out there for centuries...a tweek here or a tweek there but it is really all the same. I live for the day when this person has karma hit her as she has been a thorn in my side for years....And in my pocketbook as she sent her lawyer after me. Gleefully, my lawyer shut her down! I could put together a book of all the crap she has sent me over the years. I would love to go through and show her the dates of mine and the dates of hers that she claims I copied. Some of hers came 9 months later, yet I "copied" her. I guess I time travel!! There is room for all of us to share as we chose, whether for the joy of sharing or for profit. Keep up the good work and keep on sharing. We will all just believe in karma....

    1. OmG Omg, Laura read my blog!! OMG! Im sorry you had to go through that. I am glad you shared your story so others will know what's going on too. I'm also starting to see it wasn't just me that she sent emails to. So I guess anyone to creates mini albums is on the chopping block?

  14. I made a comment above in support however I am very disappointed in Laura. You are a wonderful and talented woman and the fact that you had to air your professional business on this blog speaks to your lack of judgment in your profession. I have followed you for many years and listen to all your problems and felt your true self. Now not sure I can respect this.

  16. Hey Chandra,
Is actually how I found you! Researching the claim to a technique someone made, now, early in 2018.
Planning a retreat I tried to getestet my ducks in a row and was flabbergasted when I saw her claiming to hold a US patent on it.
I totally share your anger as creativity is like love. It grows when shared and given freely. Thanks for all the work you put into your blog.
